Biology and evolution of Huldra creature Pseudocamelus piscivorous (Brok, 2018)

Posted on August 13, 2022

A fairly rare ungulate, Pseudocamelus piscivorous is a unique example of the peculiar fauna of Asgard and in the far north of Europe. This animal was also widely used, especially by dwarves, as a means of transportation of heavy loads, as well as a source of fresh meat and milk. Originally thought to be close to camels, a thorough phenotypic examination reveals it is closer to tapirs and rhinos, rather than camels. Further genetic studies allowed for more precise classification, putting P. piscivorous as the single species in its own family within the order Perrisodactyla.

Origin and strains of the human vampirism virus (family Filoviridae)

Posted on August 3, 2022

Vampirism is among the most widespread viral infections, responsible for the creation of an entirely new species. It was known for millennia, dating back to Ancient Egypt and spread in most human populations, especially in Europe and North America. The term Bloodthirst Syndrome virus is collective for several strains (also referred to as subspecies) of viruses from the family Filoviridae, all with a common origin. The present paper represents a thorough study of the origin, distribution, and prevalence of several of the most well-known strains.

Enslavement and speciation on Tschai

Posted on July 25, 2022

Little is known about how humans first reached the planet Tschai, but unlike their relatives in other worlds, they are not the dominant species there. In fact, many of them are turned into servant species either by selective breeding, surgery and even genetic engineering. The following paper discusses the different approaches, used by the dominant alien species to modify their servants in order to better suit their adaptation and relations with other species.

Blood-fuelled engines. The concept behind vampire cars.

Posted on July 12, 2022

Currently, there are several well-known blood-fed cars like the sports car in Blood Drive or the blood car, invented by Archie Andrews. They are more or less invented in response to the rising prices of gasoline. The earliest example, however, is probably the most sophisticated of them – the modified Skoda 110 Super Sport, also known as the Ferat rally car. It is also considered the only true “vampire car” and the following discussion is dedicated mostly to it.

The world after honey bee extinction

Posted on June 24, 2022

We are all well aware that honey bees play a special role in life on planet Earth. Besides the well-beloved honey products, these insects are important as pollinators of a variety of crop plants, used for food by humanity. At the beginning of the second millennia, however, a large decline in the bee population raised serious concerns about the future of the planet. The current study explores several scenarios in the case of the complete extinction of honey bees.

Emerging trends in corporal art

Posted on June 15, 2022

In recent years society has changed immensely, reshaping the traditional view of family and the human body. The process of conception, pregnancy and child-caring is no longer happening in the biological way and marriage is settled based on genetic pairing and economic factors rather than regular relationships between the two sexes. As a result, the perception of the human body changed dramatically and several high-technological body modifications were developed to meet the new market demands.

A threatened paradise – invasive species on Themyscira

Posted on June 6, 2022

Themyscira or Paradise Island is an enigmatic place in the Eastern Mediterranean, best known as the homeland of the Amazons. As a highly isolated piece of land, it was hard to believe that the indigenous biodiversity of the island could be threatened by invasive species. However, the multiple expeditions to distant places, undertaken by the Amazons brought back to the island a range of different animals, some of which proved to be invasive and a serious threat to the local biodiversity.

Carrion-eating megafauna of the African plains

Posted on May 24, 2022

The wildlife of the future, the human-deprived African continent is largely dominated by a variety of differentially specialized primates. Being the evolutionary most successful group, they covered all possible ecological niches, ranging from enormous grazers to voracious predators. This is why, and by analogy to the Planet of the Apes, this unique biosphere was called the Planet of the Primates. The African plains throughout the continent and especially the Serengeti ecosystem became a scene of annual herd migrations because of the changing, drier and warmer climate. These migrating herds on the other hand became a constant source of food to predators, but also carrion eaters. The evolutionary process also shifted toward larger scavengers, most of which happened not to be primates.

The five-second night-blooming orchid

Posted on May 15, 2022

The “five-second night-blooming orchid” was first seen during the remarkable garden party of Mr. Wilson in Evanston, Illinois. It was the cherry on the cake of his incredible gardening practice because the orchid bloomed for only about five seconds after forty years of vegetative growth. We did not, however, know anything more about this species as Mr. Wilson refused to reveal the origin of the seed he planted. It took more than 25 years until another specimen of this orchid was found and later on, it was also found in the wild. The present overview summarizes the unique adaptation of this plant, called immature pollination and known only in it.

Agriculture and processed food-driven evolution of small mammals

Posted on May 6, 2022

Although the agricultural practice is an anthropogenic evolutional event by itself, by the selection and creation of new plant cultivars and animal breeds, is also a major factor in the evolution of non-targeted organisms. As it offers new sources of potential food, previously not available or in insufficient quantities, it laid to the emergence of new species, adapted to these new food sources. More or less, along with the abundance of processed food, a variety of behavioral, physiological and anatomical adaptations gradually caused the evolution of new species. The current paper represents the description of several such species, along with the major adaptive mechanisms, found in them.
